Passover, or Pesach, is the festival commencing the liberation of the Jews from ancient Egypt, led by Moses, after God inflicted ten plagues upon the Egyptians. The festival starts on the eve of the 15th of the Jewish month of Nissan and continues for eight days. The pinnacle of the holiday is the Seder dinner, which is conducted on the first nights. The table is set with the finest dinnerware, the Seder plate, matzah trays, the cup of Elijah and other specialty ware as well as wine goblets for every participant. During the seder, the story of Exodus is read from the Haggaddah, and traditional songs are sung, while the leader wears a white kittel to symbolize freedom. During the Seder four cups of wine/grape juice are consumed by each participant. Matzos, as well as other traditional Passover foods are eaten as well. Special attention is given to the children, especially when it comes to the Afikomen present.
